Yup'ik story masks are a part of the rich heritage of the Yup'ik peoples, used in ceremonies and festivals to tell the stories of old through song and dance.  Depicted in this illustration is a story mask, with tundra cotton flowing from the mouth, providing the visual depiction of breath, or spirit, flowing back and forth.
 
The original work was created using paper, ink, and coffee.
